Hmmm peanut butter! I haven't had it for a long time but I remember, when I was living in Boston, I was getting it freshly made (chunky) from my food coop. My favorite way to eat was: I was spreading it on rice cakes, spread some honey and finish with slices of bananas. Like a bomb!

Let's go to Hot Pepper Tree in Crouch End - that's where I got hooked on the American sandwich (bacon, peanut butter + hot pepper jam). And you can get a couple of jars of the jam to go - to continue in the comfort of your own home...
First... time I tried peanut butter (exactly the spooning) coincided with my first time stoned. That was very funny. Amazing gastronomic experience. Still not sure what gave me the highs.

Pea kasha is just one of my favorite memories,not suggestion :)
I couldn`t complain about my School lunches, honestly! Except `Kompot` (don`t confuse with Compote ) drink made of dried fruits,boiled in water with sugar, that`s just awful culinary invention in my opinion, but still loved in Eastern European countries,perhaps.

Loved this - agree the Jamon Iberico de Bellota was heavenly - if I could buy myself one treat a month, it would be that - the fat is orgasmic - stays on the palate for a long time after eating. Did you taste the Smoked Beef by the Artisan Smokehouse - glorious.

The heat and all those fruits and veggies are so tempting! We went to Marrakesh and then up to the Atlas Mtns in Jan - was already warm then (not in the mtns, but in town) so can imagine it was quite hot. What a perfect lunch - those moroccan tomatoes and figs must be so tasty.

Pille - I know what you mean about certain things similar unfamiliar. I think Amy's version of Soviet 'byt' is like a concentrated version, most definitely more prevalent in early 90s.
